Vans are targeted for two reasons: what's inside them, and how easy the factory lock is to defeat. Tools and stock are valuable and easy to move on, and on most panel vans the factory door lock is a single point of failure — beat that one lock and the doors are open. Understanding that is the starting point for deciding what to fit.
A hook deadlock is usually the single highest-impact upgrade you can make. It operates completely independently of your factory central locking, so relay attacks, signal jamming, and OBD key cloning — all of which target the factory system — simply don't apply to it. If you make frequent stops through the day, a slam lock is worth adding alongside a deadlock: it locks the moment the door closes, so there's no window where the van sits unlocked because you were in a hurry.
Locks stop the door opening the intended way. Shielding and security plates stop the other ways in — peel attacks on the rear door corner, drilling the lock barrel, or levering the hinges. This matters even if you've already fitted a deadlock, because a strong lock on a weak door frame just moves the point of attack rather than removing it.
Immobilisers and trackers matter most if the van itself — not just the contents — is the risk you're covering for. A covert immobiliser stops the engine starting without a secondary step a thief won't know about, and a tracker means that if the van is taken, you and the police have a real chance of getting it back.
